The Independent Election Commission (IEC) launched the activities of the Political Week project from the University of Jordan to be applied in other public and private universities, in cooperation with the Crown Prince Foundation, under the patronage of the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, Eng. Musa Al-Maaytah, and the President of the University of Jordan, Dr. Nazir Obeidat, which aims to educate students about the outputs of the political talk system, highlight the most prominent developments in the electoral and party laws, and the practice of partisan work by young people within universities.
In his speech at the launch ceremony, Maaytah said: "Through this political week, we seek to implement the royal directives and the directives of His Highness the Crown Prince in enhancing youth and student participation in decision-making, to build together the national generation of young people who believe in their homeland and its leadership, apply its legislation, accept the other, and master the language of dialogue, communication and cooperation."
Maaytah added that the Jordanian state has decided today that the solution is in participation, provided that participation is effective and based on pluralism, acceptance of the other, citizenship and the rule of law, to present Jordan with the model we all want, based on state institutions and law, and which adopts democracy as a basic approach in the relationship between all authorities and various popular groups.
Al-Maaytah also explained that the Commission seeks, through these awareness campaigns, to educate our youth, as the next stage bears the title: Collective work, and there is no place for individual work, pointing out that this is what we were keen on and our goal when approving the outputs of the Political Modernization Committee, which provided young people witha golden opportunity to activate their political participation and representation in parties and parliament, especially with the approaching issuance of the system organizing party work in universities, which provides a safe and organized space for them to practice partisan activities at the university, pinning his hope Educated and aware youth must pick up this signal and work hard to set a positive example for the next generation.
Obeidat stressed that in light of the new trend towards political action, we must not forget the academic and scientific values on which universities were built, and our meeting today, and the establishment of this week, is only an open discussion to reach a balanced equation for the development of partisan work within universities, to ensure access to the best levels of freedom, whether it comes to students or university workers, a freedom that does not lead to counterproductive results, but is accompanied by a deep understanding of what must be done to build the new Jordan.
Obeidat also called on students in this optimistic political scene to preserve the flame of hope, pointing out that the university is a small homeland, and the homeland is only our home, which we must take care of with all our determination.
The Dean of Student Affairs at the University of Jordan, Dr. Ismail Al-Zyoud, stressed that in light of this important and significant transformation thatJordan is witnessing, it is necessary to search for inclusiveness away from individual interests, while launching partisan freedom and upgrading the role of youth, especially in Jordanian universities, to walk on a firm ground along with the educational process in a way that does not affect its stability and process in the corridors of their educational edifices, pointing out that young people are future leaders and hope is held on them and with them.
