The Independent Election Authority meets the local community in Zarqa

15 October 2022
Dr. Raed Al-Adwan, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, stressed that the outputs of the Royal Committee, especially with regard to the electoral laws and political parties, enabled women to achieve political gains and expanded the circle of their participation in decision-making.

This came during the dialogue meeting held by the Commission today with the local community in Zarqa Governorate, in cooperation with the Jordanian Women's Committees Association, as this meeting comes within a series of meetings held by the Commission with its partners, with the aim of spreading electoral awareness and enhancing political participation.

Al-Adwan reviewed the most prominent developments in the laws regulating political life and showed the size of the increase inthe number of seats allocated  to women in local lists, which reached 18 seats, from only 15 seats.
He also reviewed the number of electoral districts in accordance with the new electoral law and indicated that the national constituency consists of 41 seats allocated to parties out of 138 (the total number of seats in the House of Representatives) and by up to 30 percent in the next House of Representatives (the twentieth), provided that this percentage rises to 50 percent in the twenty-first House of Representatives, and then settles on 65 percent in the twenty-second House of Representatives.
Al-Adwan added that in light of the adoption of the laws regulating political life in Jordan, women are no longer the weakest link in society, on the contrary, they have been able to access political life better, and they are at a  degree that qualifies them to find their position as an active element and participant in decision-making, and to work shoulder to shoulder next to their male brothers and in a complete manner.

Al-Adwan also indicated that the recent constitutional amendments worked to transfer the file of political parties to the Independent Election Commission, which enabled it to organize this file financially and administratively, indicating that the allocation of seats for political parties in the  Jordanian Electoral Institute to obtain a higher diploma in electoral policies and management, constitutes a qualitative leap in the nature of the work of the Commission in particular and political life in general, which motivates citizens to engage in partisan work.

An extensive discussion took place in which the aggression answered the observations and inquiries of the audience.
