Maaytah: It is the student's right to be partisan away from the obsession of fear
01 September 2022
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, Eng. Musa Al-Maaytah, said that it is time for the university student to practice partisan work and belong to Jordanian political parties, freely and democratically, without feeling obsessed with fear, considering that partisan work has become part of public life in Jordan.
This came during his meeting with members of the American University Alumni Association in the presence of the President of the Association, Prof. Dr. Marwan Kamal, and Vice President, Dr. Ezzat Jaradat.
Maaytah stressed that today we are living a transitional phase in the transition towards programmatic collective work through political parties instead of individual work, and that parties are national institutions that contribute to the development of societies and help their stability.
Maaytah said that the definition of democracy today is the right of the voter to choose his representative freely, fairly and with conviction, within clear practical programs based on diversity, pluralism, acceptance of the other and the rule of law, and that His Majesty the King's call for a legislative environment that encourages partisan work to ensure the formation of realistic programmatic parties is the biggest catalyst for engaging in political life.
Maaytah also affirmed His Majesty's keenness to change the form of state administration today, through the uniform of political participation, especially youth, and that dialogue is the basis for convincing them to participate politically and move towards a new phase of work, construction, and achievement.
Al-Maaytah explained that the Commission launched awareness campaigns with the aim of enhancing the participation of young people in political life in general and nowelections in particular, through the national campaign to enhance popular participation (the solution is participation), and the I Participate Forum, which aims to integrate Jordanian youth at the level of universities and schools in dialogue and public work, explaining that the Commission announced the completion of the first phase of the project to build the capacity of teachers in civic and political education in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and the RASED Center.
For his part, Dr. Marwan Kamal said that the hope is pinned on the Jordanian society to strengthen and accept political parties, and the arrival of real parties, and to move away from decorative parties and build a new political approach .
The President and members of the American University Alumni Association praised the efforts of the Commission, stressing the need for coordination and networking with the media, and raising the level of awareness and partisan education.
