Maayta: The ballot box is the verdict

A government meeting with international partners on Tuesday focused on the steps taken by Jordan in the path of political modernization, to strengthen the programmatic party life, to be represented and effective in parliament, and to have youth and women have a key role in it.
The meeting was held at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation and reviewed the future plans and programs implemented by the Government in cooperation with the concerned institutions to advance political modernization and discuss ways to benefit from advanced international experiences and expertise in this regard.
The meeting brought together the Ministers of Planning and International Cooperation, Youth, State for Legal Affairs, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs.
During the meeting, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Al-Sherida said that political modernization is being pursued by Jordan in accordance with the royal visions, in order to make a qualitative leap in the political field and parliamentary life and lay the foundations for effective party life to reach a parliament based on programmatic blocs, and stressed that the state has entered its second centenary with a comprehensive national modernization project, to enhance its sources of strength and expand participation in decision-making.
Al-Sherida pointed to the important role of the media in promoting political participation, party culture and democratic practices, and promoting the participation of youth, women, and persons with disabilities.
The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, Moussa Al-Maayta, said that the Commission has launched a national campaign to raise awareness and education on the recent constitutional amendments and the electoral and party laws, with the aim of expanding participation in political life, specifically among youth and women, and stressed that the ballot box is the arbiter of fair elections in which political parties compete at the national and provincial levels, to emulate the experiences of advanced democracies in the world.
Al-Maayta reviewed the programs and projects that the Commission is implementing, following the transfer of powers to consider applications for the establishment of parties and follow up their affairs to the Independent Electoral Commission.
