The Amman Group for Future Dialogues hosted the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission Engineer Musa Al-Maaita in an open dialogue on the Commission and its future roles.
During the dialogue moderated by the group's president Bilal Hassan Al-Tal, Al-Maaita called on young people to engage in party work, stressing that it is the way for political action, and that the participation of young people in party work is the only way to work together politically rather than individually within their communities, urging them to have their primary loyalty to the nation and its progress.
Al-Maaita pointed out that the real amendments were made to the laws governing political action emanating from the outputs of the Royal Commission for the Modernization of the Political System, which is keen in its entirety to strengthen the role of young people, including lowering the age of candidacy in the constitution, and the election law has undergone radical changes aimed at promoting political participation in its generality and strengthening confidence in the electoral process to serve the participation of all of them young people and women, and the new party law and the financial financing system of parties support the participation of young people and women.
With regard to the inclusion of parties in the independent electoral body, Al-Maaita explained that all parties will be licensed under the new law, and the existing parties have been addressed to correct their situation, and have been provided with the models for this matter, stressing that the party, which was unable to correct its situation during the period of time stipulated by the law, will be considered a degeneration of the law, explaining that the parties have one year to work to correct their situation.
Maaita said that the commission has a great job in terms of training in the new election law and awareness in it, where the authority began to train its cadres on it and then society to clarify the form and method of the upcoming elections, stressing that partisanship and the involvement of society in it needs several factors, including upbringing and curricula and educating young people about party life and its importance in the development of societies, active participation, diversity, democracy and civil action.
As for the elections of chambers of commerce and industry, Al-Maaita said that according to its regulations, the authority is the body responsible for managing the elections after the request of the Minister of Industry and Trade in accordance with its regulations, where the authority will determine the date of voting and the date of the applications for candidacy, stressing that the authority will do so after ensuring the availability of the necessary standards and conditions to conduct them, which ensure integrity, transparency and justice, especially in the voter registers of these elections.
