Talk in Tafila about provincial and municipal council elections
February 27, 2022 Jihad al-Momani, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, said Sunday that the rumored election engineering is a false term that has nothing to do with reality, pointing out that the commission has achieved successes in supervising the elections at all stages, during which it adopted several standards of integrity and transparency. Al-Momani added, during a meeting organized by the Authority today at the University of Tafila Technical to present its preparations for the elections of provincial and municipal councils, that the term engineering elections, is launched by those who take a position to boycott the elections or some of those who were not lucky in previous elections, stressing that talking about fraud in the electoral process or manipulation of votes is contrary to reality and truth.
He stressed that the past electoral entitlements proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the results "depend on the outcomes of the funds and the will of the voters,"pointing out that it is at the heart of the work of the Commission and its essence to protect the will of the voter and preserve it from any tampering. He explained that the Commission enjoys financial and administrative independence, and the Government has nothing to do with it except in the provision of logistical, security and human support needed by the procedural stages of the electoral process, which are conducted in accordance with the highest standards and degrees of integrity, transparency and impartiality. He stressed that the elections are a national task that the Commission is working to accomplish in cooperation and coordination with its partners, and the Commission views every citizen as a partner in the success of the process and its output in a bright form, in line with the principles of transparency, integrity and neutrality, and reflects the true democracy that we all aspire to. He explained that the elections of provincial councils and municipalities scheduled for March 22, need about 60,000 human elements to be implemented easily and easily, in accordance with the highest degree of integrity and transparency, while there will be 1,500 accountants to count votes, apart from the participation of the women's sector, and the presence of young volunteers. He said 15 million ballot papers, each with nine security watermarks, will be printed with the boxes colored in the color of the three ballots. Al-Momani pointed to the equipping of dedicated polling stations for persons with disabilities scattered across the Kingdom, the allocation of cadres to help the elderly, pregnant women, and persons with disabilities to cast their votes with ease and ease, as well as the development of standards of integrity in polling stations through special ghettos, the installation of surveillance cameras, and the collection of votes electronically and paper. Al-Momani reviewed the stages of the electoral process, from the preparation of lists of voters and candidates to the announcement of the election results, and the role of the independent body in overseeing the electoral process, speaking about the seven districts of the provincial council and the quota system.
The meeting included a theatrical performance entitled "Your Voice is Your Right" by Hussein Tabichat and his theatre group, which reflected the importance of participating in elections, particularly women and young people, and the role of active participation in the industry of change and modernization.
