Independent election meets civil society institutions in Jerash
February 21, 2022 The Independent Electoral Commission held a dialogue meeting with civil society institutions in Jerash province in light of the commission's preparations for the elections for provincial councils, municipal councils and the Amman Secretariat Council scheduled for March 22nd. Dr. Abir Dabana, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, stressed the authority's keenness to educate citizens about the elections of provincial councils, municipal councils and the Amman Secretariat Council and enable them to understand the election law and election procedures through workshops, dialogue seminars, awareness posts, the authority's website, and social media sites. Dabana also reviewed the measures adopted by the Commission to ensure the integrity of the electoral process, noting the presence of observers, journalists and media representing civil society institutions and local and international media and regulatory agencies at all stages of the electoral process. Dabana explained the mechanism for calculating the results and the women's quota, in addition to the participation of young volunteers, especially on polling day. Ammar Al Husseini, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, also showed the numbers of voters participating in the electoral process in all constituencies, and talked about the stage of candidacy, the presentation of the names of candidates whose applications were accepted, the time periods for challenging the candidate and deciding on the court's decisions to appeal. Husseini referred to the executive instructions governing electoral propaganda, including the stage of electoral silence, as well as to refrain entirely from practicing any form of propaganda at polling stations and counting, whether directly or indirectly.
