Independent election meets civil society institutions in Madaba

February 16, 2022      The Independent Election Commission held a dialogue meeting with civil society institutions in Madaba province as part of its awareness campaign in light of its preparations for the elections for provincial councils, local councils and the Amman Secretariat Council scheduled for March 22nd.
Dr. Zuhair Abu Fares, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, stressed the importance of this meeting and openness to the partners of the electoral process, including civil society institutions, which have the responsibility to spread electoral awareness and education as a shared responsibility and not just the responsibility of the Commission. Abu Fares reviewed the laws governing the electoral process, the instructions governing electoral propaganda, the voting and counting mechanism and the calculation of results, and the public safety measures followed by the Commission in light of the Corona pandemic in order to preserve the health and safety of the participants in the electoral process. He also pointed out that the Authority provided a number of means of communication with it for the purposes of inquiring about any electoral information or complaints through the website of the Authority or social media pages or the application of the cell phone in addition to multiple means of communication to inquire about the polling station and counting. Abu Fares said the authority has worked to provide qualified and accredited polling stations for people with disabilities, in light of the commission's preparations for the upcoming elections. At the end of the meeting, Abu Fares answered the questions and inquiries of the audience.
