Independent election: Acceptance (4794) application for candidacy and rejection (25) applications for elections for provincial councils, municipal councils, and Amman Secretariat Council

 
February 15, 2022 The Independent Electoral Commission announced the acceptance of (4,794) applications for candidacy, while (25) applications for the elections of provincial councils, municipal councils and the Amman Secretariat Council scheduled for March 22, were rejected, based on the provisions of the Local Administration Act No. (22) of 2021, the Amman Secretariat Act No. (18) of 2021 and the executive instructions issued under it.  According to the Authority, the rejection of applications for nominations came for various legal reasons, where the number of applications rejected for the mayor (1) one, while the number of applications rejected for membership of the municipal council (18) applications, while the applications rejected for membership of the provincial council amounted to (6) applications, while all applications for membership of the Secretariat of Oman were accepted. The Authority indicated that it will notify applicants of the decision of the Council of Commissioners in writing the reasons for rejection in accordance with the executive instructions for running for the elections of provincial councils, municipal councils and the Amman Secretariat Council No. 4 for 2021, and the candidate has the right to appeal the decision of the Council of Commissioners to reject the application to run in the Court of First Instance The municipal area/electoral district is within its jurisdiction on the days (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) of 17-18-19/2/2022 and during official working hours, and the competent court must decide on the appeal within three days of the day Following the date of the appeal to the Registry, its decision on the appeal shall be categorical and not subject to appeal to any other authority, and the court will provide the Court with copies of its decisions within three days of the day after the date and time of its issuance.
