Independent Election: The launch of the program "Electoral Justice" in cooperation with the Jordanian Bar Association
January 2, 2022 The Independent Electoral Commission, in cooperation with the Jordanian Bar Association, held the first sessions of the "Electoral Justice" program in the branch of the union in Irbid province as part of joint efforts between the independent body and the union to introduce the concept of electoral justice and electoral appeals, and the joint program will cover all provinces of the Kingdom in coordination with the Bar Association. According to Dr. Abeer Dabana, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, this program focuses on a number of competent topics, divided into two sessions dealing with the first session dealing with the regulatory framework for holding elections, the establishment of the body and the legal framework governing the independent electoral body under the relevant legislation in addition to the stages of the electoral process, the role played by lawyers in protecting electoral justice, guarantees of integrity, standards and best practices, and the program aims to introduce the guarantees of integrity adopted and applied in the Jordan is stipulated in the laws of the local administration and the Secretariat of Oman, executive instructions and the procedures of the Authority. At its second session, the programme covers the procedural framework for appeals for provincial and municipal councils and the Amman Secretariat Council scheduled for 2022, which includes the jurisdiction of the Court of First Instance to hear electoral appeals, court appeal proceedings from the moment the case file arrives, the nature of the court's decision in terms of acceptance and rejection of the appeal and its consequences, as well as the formality of the decision and its association with international integrity and standards. Dabana added that the Commission issued an introductory guide in which it highlighted the definition of the Independent Electoral Commission and the concept of electoral justice in all its stages and chapters, in addition to appeals and guarantees of the electoral dispute resolution system, laws, regulations and instructions governing the electoral process.
