October 24, 2021
Today, at the University of Jordan, an agreement was signed to develop joint cooperation between the university and the Independent Election Commission, with the aim of adopting the Higher Diploma in Electoral Policies and Management program within the specializations of Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II School of International Studies.
The agreement, signed on behalf of the university by its president, Dr. Nazir Obeidat, and the commission, the chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Dr. Khaled Kalaldeh, will contribute to enhancing electoral awareness and consolidating democratic concepts among students registered in the program, and developing the skills of workers and those interested in the electoral process locally, regionally and internationally.
After the signing, Obeidat stressed the university's keenness to advance knowledge in the electoral field, which is a new scientific path in the region, as well as develop students' skills, and provide all forms of required knowledge and administrative support. This will support electoral knowledge and enhance confidence in the outcomes of that process at the same time, in addition to the fact that the program will serve the system of political modernization and the development of party life through the building of national capacities that serve electoral processes at all levels.
For his part, Al-Kalaldeh explained that through this cooperation, the academic tracks will be within the responsibility of the university, and the applied tracks and workshops will be held within the programs of the Electoral Training Institute in the Commission, stressing that this program comes from the Independent Election Commission’s belief in the importance of the political entitlements that Jordan is experiencing and the need to build the capacities of both workers and partners in the electoral process. This is done by allocating scholarships to political parties and grants to the concerned official institutions and to a number of the commission's staff, who are selected within the criteria of integrity, transparency and interviews.
The signing ceremony was attended by the university's Vice President for International Relations, Prof. Zaid Eyadat, the President's Assistant for Legal Affairs Dr. Hadeel Al-Zoubi, the Dean of Prince Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah II School of International Studies, Prof. Faisal Al-Rfouh, a number of faculty members at the School, and the director of the Unit of International Affairs Dr. Hadeel Yassin.
