The start of the academic year for students of the Higher Diploma in Electoral Politics and Management
October 12, 2021
Today, the first day of face-to-face education for students of the Higher Diploma in Electoral Policies and Management Program for the academic year 2021/2022 began at the Jordanian Electoral Institute - the Independent Election Commission - with the aim of promoting electoral awareness, consolidating democratic concepts and developing the skills of workers and those interested in the electoral process locally, regionally and internationally.
Dr. Khaled Al-Kalaldeh, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, and Prof. Dr. Nazir Obeidat, President of the University of Jordan, met with the students in the classrooms of the Commission building, in the presence of the Dean of Prince Al Hussein Bin Abdullah II School of International Studies, Dr. Faisal Al-Rufou’ and the faculty at the School.
Al-Kalaldeh stressed the importance of this program and the feeling of pride in its implementation and launch to serve the electoral process and to create a generation aware of the electoral process and its procedures, which enhances the national and regional requirements to serve the system of political modernization and the development of partisan life or through the production of national competencies that serve electoral processes locally and regionally. He stressed that this project comes from the Independent Election Commission’s belief in the importance of the political entitlements that Jordan is experiencing and the need to build the capacities of both workers and partners in the electoral process. This is through allocating ten scholarships to political parties and grants to the concerned official institutions and a number of the commission’s staff who were selected within the standards of integrity and transparency through interviews.
For his part, Obeidat affirmed the University of Jordan's absolute support for this program, expressing his pride that the first certificates of this program were awarded locally and regionally through the university and in cooperation with the Independent Election Commission. He also stressed the university's keenness to improve and develop students' skills and provide all forms of required knowledge and administrative support, in a way that aims to strengthen students' electoral knowledge and to enhance confidence in the outcomes of the electoral process.
