IEC Declares its Readiness to Hold the Municipal and governorates councils’ elections of Muwaqqar District (re-hold, 2018)
IEC spokesperson, Jihad Momani, has confirmed that the Independent Election Commission has finished all the preparations to re-hold the municipal and governorate council elections in Muwaqqar district (2018) on Saturday 20/10/2018, including the location of the Mayer of Al-Muwaqqar and (13) local councils affiliated with constituencies (28 and 29) of the Capital Governorate Council “Decentralization”.
He clarified that the number of eligible voters, after the eliminations on the voters lists and the exclusion of those who lost their right to vote from the primary lists, was (20652) male and female voters; and that there were (90) candidates for the municipalities and governorates councils. Taking into account that there are (8) local councils in Al-Muwaqqar in which the number of candidates and the number of the council’s seats are equal so do for the constituency (29) in the Capital Governorate Council in which the number of candidates was equal to the number of allocated seats for this constituency.
He added that the number of ballot boxes stood at (43) distributed over (26) ballot centers which are divided into (12) centers for males, (12) centers for females and (2) mixed gender centers.
To achieve transparency, the Commission has invited local and international observers, journalists and media professionals to be the observers of the electoral process. (26) Observers will participate in these elections; including international observers and an international support team affiliated to six international observatory bodies, in addition to (122) local observers affiliated to three local observatory bodies, and (135) official journalists.
Momani confirmed the procedures applied in the electoral process, which include a series of clear procedures to guarantee the security of the electoral process and to avoid any violations that would affect its integrity. He confirmed the importance of presenting the voter’s electoral card and ID in the ballot centers.
He pointed out that the process of vote counting will be conducted in the ballot rooms at the moment of closing ballot boxes with the presence of the candidates’ representatives and local and international observers, it will also be available for the media to follow it up. He also added that there is a media center in the IEC building to provide services to media professionals and journalists starting from Saturday morning (20/10/2018).
