Independent Election Participates in Dialogue Workshop in the Southern Valleys
March 12, 2022 The Independent Electoral Commission participated in the dialogue workshop organized and invited by the Southern Valley Forum Association under the title of elections and participation in decision-making. Jihad al-Momani, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, stressed the independence of the commission and its standing at a distance from all candidates and voters, explaining that the commission has no authority over it and that it is not under any pressure from any party. Moumni said the commission applied international standards of integrity, transparency, and impartiality, but those who lose the elections were trying to question the electoral process and point fingers at state agencies and blame them.
"The citizen is the instrument of change, and we have to go to change and not wait for it to come to us, and the ballot boxes are the verdict, and participation in the elections is a national responsibility that everyone bears, which is a duty that we have to do and a right that we have to take," he said. During the meeting, Al-Momani also reviewed the preparations of the Independent Electoral Commission for the holding of elections for provincial councils, municipal councils, the Amman Secretariat Council, and the integrity procedures and guarantees adopted by the Authority, which prove its transparency indeed, not words. Al-Momani gave a detailed explanation of the electoral calendar from the stage of preparing the voters' lists and explained in detail how to vote on polling day, stressing that the fullness of these stages is carried out in accordance with the law and with the utmost transparency and that any talk of manipulation or engineering of the elections is pure slander and comes in the context of disinformation campaigns targeting the status of the Jordanian state and are based on questioning and rumor. At the end of the meeting, there was an extensive dialogue in which Al-Momani answered the questions and inquiries of the audience.
