Independent election meets civil society institutions in the capital
March 06, 2022 Dr. Zuhair Abu Fares, a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Electoral Commission, stressed the role of the Commission in restoring citizen confidence in the electoral process as a means that represents the will of the people and is an essential means of achieving community peace in order to reflect the stability enjoyed by Jordan. He also stressed the importance of communicating with the partners of the electoral process because of the active role played by these partners in the success of the electoral process at all stages, pointing out that the commission does not interfere in the development of election laws but is implementing these laws after they have passed their constitutional channels but present their opinion to any law with its procedural dimension.
This came during his meeting with civil society institutions in the province of the capital in light of the preparations of the Authority to hold elections for provincial councils, municipal councils and the Council of the Secretariat of Oman, where Abu Fares stressed the right of the citizen to express his opinion and not confiscate his decision to choose who represents him freely reviewing the procedures of the Authority in this area, which is to publish the executive instructions on the website of the Authority, the pre-distribution of voters on the polling rooms, the use of special electoral ink, and the linking of all polling stations and counting Electronically, electronically and paper-based marking of the voter's name, the adoption of a ballot paper with security signs that are difficult to falsify and the adoption of a isolation with specifications in accordance with international standards and guarantees the confidentiality of voting, the screening of boxes in the same voting hall and in the presence of candidates and their delegates, local and international observers and the media, distribution of a copy of the electronic box screening record to candidates and delegates, and the installation of a copy of the counting record on the door of the voting hall and counting. He stressed that these measures are aimed at implementing free, fair, transparent, and fair elections that have the confidence and acceptance of the Jordanian citizen.
Abu Fares also reviewed the commission's preparations for holding elections for provincial councils, municipal councils and the Amman Secretariat Council, explaining that the Authority has developed its practical procedures through its training and gaining international expertise, conducting a comprehensive assessment of its performance after each electoral process to strengthen strengths and avoid weak points if any, to be ready to conduct any electoral process thanks to the cumulative skills and experience of its cadres. In response to inquiries from the audience, Abu Fares explained that the Commission fights black money as a punishable crime and that the Authority monitors electoral irregularities and deals with them by law and in coordination with the relevant authorities.
