Representing His Majesty the King.... Al-Fayez inaugurates the 15th International Electoral Affairs Symposium
Faisal Al-Fayez, Head of the Jordanian Senate, asserted that the development and modernization process in Jordan is proceeding forward ceaseless. That's why we have always been looking for the best. He pointed out on the occasion of inaugurating the 15th International Electoral Affairs Symposia at the Dead Sea on Monday, on behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah II, that the Kingdom has introduced several amendments to the electoral system of the parliamentary elections in line with our large-scale aspirations and ambitions through which we are seeking to involve the different political, factional and social forces, in a way that enables the various forces to access to the parliament and form partisan parliamentary governments based on promising programs.
His Excellency expressed his great pleasure that this Symposium would be convened in Jordan at a time the Kingdom is witnessing major reforms in various political, economic and social life aspects, aiming to promote the popular participation and consolidate the values of justice, equality, integrity, public freedoms, human rights and good governance, in addition to granting the judiciary full independence, separation of constitutional authorities and women and youth empowerment.
He added that the large package of political and civil reforms we conducted in Jordan has enabled us to overcome the state of chaos and political conflicts striking our region. Jordan, today, enjoys security and stability. Over and above all, we have been able to turn the challenges facing us into opportunities for comprehensive national growth in all fields.
He asserted that since the establishment of IEC, with the aim of ensuring the integrity of its results, full support has been provided so as to strengthen its role and presence for ensuring that elections will be held with the utmost national responsibility, with their results expressing the true will of the electors. That is exactly what IEC has done with all strength and courage, thus promoting the trust of electors in the electoral process, so the turnout rate went up.
Chairman of IEC's Board of Commissioners pointed out that Jordan is moving forward and taking large strides in the field of political reform led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, explaining that IEC has faced considerable challenges in enhancing the trust of the voter in the electoral process in addition to holding three public elections in less than one year.
