IEC holds meeting with organizations working on women's electoral participation

As part of a series of meetings planned with various electoral stakeholders, the IEC on Wednesday held a meeting at its headquarters with representatives of a number of organizations working on women's electoral participation. The meeting aimed to evaluate the administration of the 2016 Parliamentary Elections which were conducted on the 20th of September 2016.

During the meeting the IEC's Head of Political Parties and Civil Society Organizations' Section, Mr. Taher Al Ashran, emphasized the critical importance of supporting women's electoral participation as a key pillar of electoral administration and the pursuit of political reforms and wider democracy.  

Participants discussed and delivered recommendations on various aspects of women's electoral participation including women's roles as voters, candidates and polling staff.
